How it works is quite simple -- these companies will lure customers in with a multitude of false promises, then start charging them hidden fees or bogus charges that were not disclosed previously. This can be extremely expensive for your business, and difficult to get out of if you've signed a contract of any kind. Now that you know what to look for, you can avoid questionable companies. But what do you do if you're not sure whether or not a company is legitimate or not? The first thing you should do is check with the Better Business Bureau. Then, contact the company and ask them any questions that you have. This will help you determine whether or not they're a good choice or not.

Fortunately avoiding merchant account scams is very easy. Simply avoid companies who seem too good to be true or make promises that seem impossible. For providers you're considering, inquire regarding the company's status with the BBB, and always contact their customer service department. Precautions such as these can ensure you find a legitimate merchant account provider and avoid getting scammed.
